How long does data recovery take?

Trying things yourself is a MISTAKE you cannot undo. If your data matters, do not touch it.

Every attempt you make can turn recoverable data into data that can no longer be recovered.

Standard jobs take 10 business days on average, urgent jobs 24 business hours on average. The actual time depends on the type of fault, sourcing the parts needed and the capacity of the disk. Some jobs are completed within a few hours, while others can take months. You can see which stage your device is at in the job tracking system, 24/7. Below you can find what makes it take longer and how you can shorten it.

Standard and urgent turnaround times

Type of jobAverage time
Standard10 business days
Urgent24 business hours

These are averages. The same time does not apply to every job; the type of fault can make it shorter or longer.

What makes it take longer?

  • Type of fault: logical problems usually take less time than mechanical failures.
  • Sourcing donor parts: on disks that need a head or board replacement, finding a compatible part takes time.
  • Capacity and read speed: copying data takes longer on large disks or disks with bad sectors.
  • Number of disks: in RAID and NAS jobs, each disk is examined separately.
  • Time taken to approve the quote: recovery does not start until we have your approval.

What can you do to shorten it?

  • Stop using the device as soon as you notice the fault, so the damage does not grow.
  • Bring the device in without delay.
  • Tell us which files or folders are the priority to recover.
  • Review the quote promptly.
  • If you want urgent service, say so when you make your request.

How do you follow the status of the job?

You can see which stage your device is at in our job tracking system, 24/7. The status is updated at every stage. For all the steps of the process, see our process page.

Time and price are affected by the same factors: the type of fault, the parts needed, the difficulty of the work and urgency. The quote sets out both the time and the price in writing. For details, see our prices page. For some requests the analysis may fall outside the free scope; in that case the fee is communicated to you when you make your request.

Frequently asked questions

How does the urgent service work?

If you want urgent service, say so when you make your request. The target is 24 business hours on average. The time depends on the type of fault and may not be the same for every job. For jobs where you request priority, the other ongoing jobs we have are paused and work on your request is started with priority.

Why might it take longer?

Finding a compatible donor part, the read speed of the disk, the number of bad sectors and the number of devices can all make it take longer. If that happens, we will let you know.

How long will my device stay with you?

Standard jobs take 10 business days on average, urgent jobs 24 business hours on average. The time a job takes may vary depending on the request. The time stated in the information you receive after your request is taken is the one that applies to you. If you do not accept the quote, you get your device back without paying.
