Guarantees and limits in data recovery: what can we promise?

Trying things yourself is a MISTAKE you cannot undo. If your data matters, do not touch it.

Every attempt you make can turn recoverable data into data that can no longer be recovered.

We do not promise that your data will definitely be recovered. The result you get depends on the state of the data on your device's storage unit. Every device is different, and in some cases the data cannot be recovered. What we can promise is to carry out the professional technical work your device needs, completely and with care. If it can be solved, we solve it; if it cannot, we tell you so. We explain our limits from the start; on this page you can also find the situations in which data may not be recoverable.

What we promise

  • To examine the device and carry out the professional technical work it needs.
  • To give you the price and the time in writing.
  • Where an analysis fee applies, to tell you before any work begins. For details, see the free analysis page.
  • To return the device without payment to a customer who does not accept the quote.

Promises we cannot make

We do not promise that all of the data will be recovered. Without working on it, we can never know remotely what state the data inside your device is in, or whether traces of the data you are looking for are still there. The times are averages: 10 business days on average for standard jobs and 24 business hours on average for urgent jobs. These times may not hold for every job. Updates are provided through the job tracking system.

Which situations reduce the chance of recovery?

  • New data has been written to the area where the data was stored
  • The faulty disk has been run again and again
  • Severe physical damage to the platter surface, fire, or staying wet for a long time
  • The TRIM command has run on an SSD
  • The recovery key for encrypted data is missing
  • The RAID or NAS array has been deleted and recreated

Although all of the above reduce the chance of data recovery, it is not possible to know the state of your data without carrying out data recovery work. We have had, and continue to have, many cases with a positive result where others had said the data was 'unrecoverable'. Of course, this should not be taken to mean that data is recovered in every job. Our aim is not to give you hope, but to give you accurate information.

What can you do to reduce the limits?

Stopping using the device as soon as you notice the fault is the step that best protects your chances. You can find what to do for each symptom on the first 10 minutes after data loss page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay if the data cannot be recovered?

In jobs where an analysis fee is charged, the analysis fee is not refunded if the data cannot be recovered. That is why we do not say 'no recovery, no fee'. For requests where an analysis fee applies, you are told this before we receive your device.

What is your success rate?

We do not publish an overall success rate, because the result depends on the type of fault and the condition of the device. After the analysis, we tell you in writing what can be recovered from your device. If there is a chance of recovery, we recover it.

Are the times guaranteed?

No. Standard jobs take 10 business days on average, urgent jobs 24 business hours on average. These are average values. Once your request reaches us, the information we give you about your request is what applies.
